OUR PROGRAMS

Through female-powered workshops, performances, public talks, and professional development training, LOHH is educating and cultivating Hip-Hop's next generation of female leaders.

  • LOHHs training company, Ladies in Training (L.I.T.) offers a cultivated environment for people to learn and strengthen one’s knowledge of street and club dance forms and culture while being in community with fellow women in Ladies of Hip Hop. Launched in May 2022, L.I.T. had two successful 6-month seasons with cohorts of 12-15 women. Based on these seasons, we hope to move to a three-month intensive model (twice a year) that ends with a final assessment and performance to support dancer development.

Being a part of L.I.T., dancers will partake in a curriculum dedicated to teaching street and club dance culture. This training will be offered by Company and guest instructors in various modules that may include dance classes, lectures, and community events. Along with technique, dancers will learn aspects of auditioning, performing, and battling as key environments street and club dancers participate in.In addition to training, Training Company members will have an end of intensive performance.

The next training cohort is April 15 - June 14, 2024. APPLY NOW!

  • Girl of Hip Hop (GOHH) is a dance program for girls 7-17 dedicated to the foundation of Hip Hop dance, including old- school into current Hip-Hop styles, intro to breaking, house, popping, locking, vogue, waacking, providing education on the history of the culture, health and wellness training along with performance opportunities.

This programming supports creating racial and cultural equity through the performing arts. Dance improves motor skills, decision making, creativity, risk taking cultural understanding, attentiveness, and awareness. GOHH brings quaL.I.T.y dance programming to youth who would have difficulty accessing these opportunities.

Led by Ladies of Hip-Hop Dance Collective members, girls‌ ‌ages‌ ‌7-17 ‌will immerse themselves in Hip-Hop dance culture. Our women-powered staff will introduce the girls to basic dance vocabulary, hip hop dance history, hip hop grooves, and related cultural history. Join us as we build the next generation of change makers!

  • The Black Dancing Bodies Project (BDB) was launched by Ladies of Hip-Hop founder, Michele Byrd-McPhee, in 2018 as an initiative to uplift and celebrate Black women in street and club dance culture. BDB is an ongoing street and club dance project addressing the erasure, miscoding, and often intentional exclusion of Black women’s work and voices. BDB has embarked on the journey to collect, preserve and tell the stories of these women through dance works, interviews and photo documentation; presented from stage to the streets.
